Anton Mauve (1838–1888) - Schaapherder met kudde. - Ets - gesigneerd in de plaat

Anton Mauve is one of the most famous painters of the Hague School. He was born on 18 September 1838 in Zaandam and died on 5 February 1888 in Arnhem; he was a Dutch painter and graphic artist. He got his education from the animal painters P.F. van Os and Wouterus Verschuur. He also worked in Oosterbeek with P.J.C. Gabriël for some time. He combined landscape and animals in his paintings. After some wandering, he settled in 1871 in the Hague, later in Laren, where he painted the heath with woolly sheep herds fading into the silver-grey tones of the landscape. Anton Mauve married a niece of Vincent van Gogh. Mauve taught Vincent how to paint. His influence on Vincent was larger than normally is assumed. His most productive years Mauve spent in Laren NH, where he was one of the founders of the Laren School. Many of his paintings he has painted near Laren. By many tourists and art aficionados, ‘t Gooi was also called ‘the land of Mauve’. Even in America, the region was known by this name. In 1887, Mauve won a gold medal at the Paris salon with his canvas ‘De terugkeer van de kudde’. When Anton Mauve died suddenly in 1888 in Arnhem, Vincent attributed his Souvenir in Arles, pink flowering peach trees, to Mauve. There are many museums that have work by him: Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, Rijksmuseum, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Toledo Museum of Art and even many collectors have his pieces. Signed in the plate. Dimensions including frame: 47 x 37 cm. Origin:Collectie Streefoord Eemnes.    29 Michiel Vliegenthart Expert Michiel Vliegenthart Vendor Nl Steeg pro top  99.9% 1377 reviews.
