This box, without hinge system is in fact composed of 2 elongated ovoid plates that are perfectly adjusted and... complete. No visible element is missing in the structure of the box. The borders of the 2 plates are perfect. The set is in excellent condition without any cracks, chips, lack or restoration.
Marine tortoiseshell extremely clear very richly encrusted from the centre:
1 - Centre shield not engraved with gold (only 18 carat was authorised in France)
2 - Very thin line of micro gold bead
3 - Line of volute and festoons in gold with paste of micro elements in iridescent mother of pearl in abalone-type!
4 - Line of rope in "8" in silver.
In addition, the front until the borders is in gold nailing called " honeycomb ".
The other side is naked except for a very fine micro beaded gold border.
Period Charles X, circa 1830/1840 - France.
No idea of usage - I certify that the object is complete-
