NIEPOORTO V V In the national wine panorama there is no producer more consensual than Niepoort. The long history of this house begins in 1842 and with the first Van Der Niepoort arriving in Portugal. He started out as a Port wine merchant and soon made his business into a thriving business that would greatly facilitate the work of future generations. In the 5th generation, Dirk Niepoort is born, an irreplaceable character in the world of wines, recognized as one of the most important characters who worked, and works, in favor of Portuguese wine. He collaborated with several dozen producers, helped them to improve their wines, to understand their vineyards. It operated a revolution in the decade of 90 when its first Robustus was born, still today a mythical wine in the Douro. In 2006 he created the Niepoort Projectos brand, where he put his experiences, his fantastic experiences around grapes not usual in the Douro, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or Riesling, began to import some of the best wines of the world, from Burgundy or the Rhône, and distributes wines that he loves, from several winemakers friends. In 2012, he started a project in Bairrada, with the acquisition of farm de Baixo, an old dream, or it was not he who helped the Gonçalves Faria, the farm de Saima or the Simores Dores to be well known. Again in 2014, Niepoort acquires farm da lomba in Gouveia and starts its project in Dão. Many other projects, in practically all the regions of national and some foreign wine, had hand of Dirk Niepoort. And as someone once said, Portugal needed four or five more Dirk, and we would not have wine today to sell. The VV was created by the grandfather of Dirk Niepoort (Eduard Marius van der Niepoort) in the early twentieth century. Eduard Marius had a great passion and commitment in quality and, as such, wanted to make the best tawny in the world and simply call him VV - Vinho Velho. The original lot was, like the new one, made from pre-phylloxeric wines, very concentrated and with "unlimited longevity".
